I have found Kriegsspiel a fine old training tool invented to train officers of the Prussian Army in the post-Napoleonic War era. Nothing unique or exciting about my discovery, many others around the world already enjoy this very nice war game. But it is new to me! So I am in the process of getting together all of the things one needs to have in order to play a newly discovered game: maps, playing pieces, rules, and all the rest. Hopefully, I will be posting here after-action reports, posts about how the rules work – or don’t work as the case may be! – what modification I have made to them, what additions I have added, and all the other things an enthusiast does to a set of game rules. With some luck and a bit of effort, I will have photographs of the battles which ensue as I learn the ins and outs of these rules. The maps will be in three: one for the “Red” forces, which will show the actual positions of the Red units; one the same but for the “Blues”; and one showing the actual positions of all the units and detachments of both forces.
This blog might become a nice bonus to the “official” kriegsspiel website.
A clean lay-out. Easy and searchable.
Maybe you could add section with “Playing pieces” (just like “Rules & Maps”) -> PhotonCutterStudios is a hint ! They produce some wonderful blocks !
Thanks for the compliments! I’ll try to keep it easy and searchable. Photon Cutter Studios is Tom Evans’ and is where I bought my first pieces, the ones which will appear shortly in the map shots as the campaign progresses. I have a print-out from his website’s product phots; I’ll post that under a category called “Playing Pieces” as you’ve suggested.
The campaign has just begun!
I like how you have the blog set up. I agree with stoffelbier, it has a very nice layout.
Thank you for the plugs. I just enjoy helping fellow gamers.
Tom
Tom, you’re more than welcome. You deserve all the praise we gamers can give you for your wonderful work with these pieces.
